About Accreditation

The NEASC's Commission on Public Elementary and Middle Schools, through the work and consensus of its member schools, offers a set of Standards which include the essential aspects of schooling for elementary and middle schools in the six state region. The Standards provide schools with a measuring stick of excellence to assess their focus on teaching and learning, judge the quality of their programs and activities and identify their strengths and needs.

The Standards act as the foundation for the three-phase cycle for accreditation: the school's self-study, the on-site visitation of the peer review team, and the school's planning and follow-up process. The Standards and the three-phase cycle provide the school and its community with a clear and comprehensive school improvement model by which they can assess themselves, gain valuable, objective feedback from a peer review team and implement a realistic and relevant planning process to improve education for their children.
